The area
Where the lake meets the limestone.
The cottage sits at Grindstone Provincial Park on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg — close to beaches, boating, fishing, hiking, and a few of the small towns and weekend stops that make the Interlake what it is.
Little Grindstone Beach
Minutes
One of several beaches in walking distance; several more a short drive away. You can walk down from the cottage when the weather's right — sand, and shallow water for the kids.
Hecla / Grindstone Provincial Park
20 minutes
A boardwalk near the park access point, hiking, and a golf course. At Hecla village: restaurants, ice cream, and paddle rentals.
Grindstone trail system
Out the door
The trail system runs the length of the park, north point to south. Watch for the wayfinding signs and take in the views. There's a loop out at North Cliffs and Black's Point.
Fishing
Out the door
Walleye, pike, perch — some of Manitoba's best walleye water. Best from the dock at dawn or dusk; bigger fish out on the boat.
Berry picking
Seasonal
Wild berries in the woods around the cottage when the season turns, and good picking near Arborg, inland across the Interlake.
Gimli
15–20 minutes south
Groceries, gas, restaurants, the harbour. The Icelandic Festival runs July 31–August 3.
Arnes Farmers Market
On the way to Gimli
Saturdays in summer. Local produce, baking, smoked fish, and the kind of strawberries you can't get in a city store.
